Backing Up to Diskette

If you don't have a backup drive, you will be considering backing up your PC
to floppy diskette. In most cases, copying across all your files will be
impractical, so you should do the next best thing which is to perform a partial
backup of your most important files. These should include your work files and
important Windows 95/98 setup information (see
Troubleshooting Tips for further information).

Backing Up to Diskette
- Place an unused floppy diskette in drive a:.
- Click the Start menu on the Taskbar and select Programs, Accessories, System
Tools and then Backup. Microsoft Backup will start to run. If this is the first
time you have run Microsoft Backup, the following screen will be displayed:

- Click "Don't show this again" and then click OK. If this is the first
time you have run Backup, the following screen will be displayed:

- Click "Don't show this again" and then click OK. The Main Microsoft
Backup window will now be displayed:

- Click on the plus sign to the left of Hard disk (C:) to expand the list of
folders on your hard disk. The window should now look something like this:

- Select the folder or documents you want to backup by clicking on the box to
the left of the file in question. When you have selected all the files you want to
backup, click Next Step. You will now be asked to provide the destination for the
backup:

- Select 3½ Floppy (A:). Click Start Backup. You will now be asked to give
a name to your backup:

- Enter an appropriate name in the box provided and click OK. The backup will
now commence. If the backup requires more than one floppy diskette, you will be
asked to replace the floppy diskette in the drive with a new one.

- When the operation is complete, the following message will be displayed:

- Click OK and then OK again.
Restoring from Floppy Diskette
- Place the last diskette of your backup set in drive a:.
- Click the Start menu on the Taskbar and select Programs, Accessories, System
Tools and then Backup. Microsoft Backup will start to run. Click the Restore tab:

- Select to restore from the 3½ Floppy (A:) and make sure the backup set
you want to use is highlighted. Click Next Step. You will be asked to select the
files that you want to restore:

- Select the files you want to restore and click Start Restore. Follow the
on-screen instructions. When the operation is complete, click OK.
